20th January 2018 – 8pm
The Rachel Myer Trio
Rachel Myer is bringing her Jazz Trio to Bridge Cottage in Uckfield on 20th January (8pm) as part of the Music@BridgeCottage series. Accompanying her on the night will be Jason Henson, Guitar and Terry Pack, Double Bass.
Rachel is an active participant on the Sussex jazz scene, regularly performing with the versatile guitarists Jason Henson. She’s influenced by her love of the classic singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, and Blossom Dearie as well as more modern interpreters of the tradition such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, and by singers like Joyce and Elis Regina and their interpretation of the Bossa Nova scene of Brazil. Expect a mix of classic material from the Great American Songbook, modern jazz standards, and her own take on the rich musical legacy of Latin America, all delivered with verve, soul and plenty of swing.
Jason has been playing the guitar for over 25 years, and has worked with many internationally acclaimed jazz musicians, including Joe Lee Wilson, Bobby Wellins, Jo Hunter, Jim Mullen, Claire Martin, Rio Van Hooijdonk & Jonny Hepbir. Jason traveled to the gypsy campsites in Holland and Germany to play with some of the grand masters of gypsy jazz in order to incorporate their incredible techniques into his own playing.
Terry has had a career spanning more than four decades and including spells with The Enid, Cosy Powell, Graham Bonnet and Steve Hacket to name but a few. In recent years he has turned his focus onto jazz and his recent musical collaborations reads like a who’s who of the British jazz scene: Claire Martin, The Cloggz, Ben Castle, Bobby Wellins, Nigel Price and Martin France.
