Victorian Day

Yr 3 St Philip’s Primary School – VICTORIAN DAY

Local Uckfield school children visited us on Monday 13th November for a Victorian Workshop. Our education officers got into character for the workshop, with Maria as our Victorian Cook and Nicola as the School Mistress.

Yr 3 were taken on a journey through a Victorian childhood, exploring school life, chores and foods eaten. Pupils enjoyed the experiences of the day, reporting that they especially liked the Dunce’s hat, cane and the back straightener used in a Victorian School!

Pupils made the batter for drop scones which Maria then cooked on our open fire. The children enjoyed tasting these after with some jam.

Chores were then completed using authentic Victorian cleaning methods; vinegar and newspaper for the windows; lemon and salt for the dirty pans; potatoes for our stained tea towels and white bread rolled up to get the dust out of small crevices!

If you have a school or group that would be interested in visiting us for an educational workshop on any historical period please email our team here: education@bridgecottageuckfield.co.uk or see our website for more information: http://www.bridgecottageuckfield.co.uk/education/
