Kevin Barber & Mark Taylor have played together for over 20 years and have played extensively throughout the South of England with the occasional foray into Europe. Highlights include playing on the main stage at BROADSTAIRS FOLK WEEK, CRAWLEY FOLK FESTIVAL and CRAWLEY BLUES FESTIVAL as well as regular folk club and small concert appearances.
Kevin’s lengthy experience of playing mainly in folk clubs and pubs is a contrast to the younger Mark who played in various pop-based outfits before joining forces with Kevin to form Barber & Taylor in 2002.
They share a passion for many musical forms and their live performances blend elements of folk, blues, jazz and swing but increasingly their own songs feature in their act. They have released six CDs as a duo as well as solo CDs more recently.
Kevin plays guitar, slide guitar and mandolin and takes the vocal lead on most of the songs although many of the arrangements are characterized by the duo’s impeccable vocal harmonies . Mark is a gifted multi-instrumentalist playing guitar, dobro, mandolin, banjo and pedal-steel. He takes the vocal lead on some of the songs, particularly his own compositions.

‘If you want to know how we sound, come and listen to us play live, that is our forte, or look at some of our videos on you tube or Facebook. They are not ‘produced’, as are the videos of many other acts, but they are all filmed ‘live’ by members of our audience who have then kindly posted them online. The word authentic is often overused these days but you can be sure that with Barber & Taylor, what you see, and hear, is what you get.’

Brighton-based duo Kevin Barber and Mark Taylor are one of those totally-together acts that sound for all the world like they’ve been playing and singing together almost from birth. Typically they play an attractively melancholy brand of acoustic-based, guitarsome bluegrassy Americana. David Kidman, FATEA.

“Flawless vocal harmonies underpinned by spellbinding, interweaving instrumental arrangements on guitar, mandolin, fiddle and banjo with superb skills as audience communicators, and a repertoire spanning contemporary folk, acoustic blues, swing and more.” Famous Willows Folk Club
