Celebrating 100 years since the first council house was built in Wealden

The Housing and Town Planning Act (also known as the Addison Act after it’s author Dr. Christopher Addison) was signed in 1919. However, it wasn’t until 1920 that council houses started to be built in Wealden. The first houses to be built in Uckfield were on Selby Road and Vernon Road.

To celebrate, we are hoping to put together a booklet full of information on Uckfield Council Houses and would like to ask if anybody has any pictures and/or memories of early council house life in Uckfield that they would mind sharing with us please?

If anyone has anything at all they would like to share with us, please email admin@bridgecottageuckfield.co.uk

Here is a picture from the UDPS archives of Selby Road, Uckfield. No date but possibly 1930s.
